Do you know this suspect in Family Dollar Store robbery?
Two armed robberies happened in Abilene in the last 24 hours.
The first was at the Family Dollar in the 1200 block of North Mockingbird around 7pm. The second armed robbery happened in the 500 block of Westmoreland just after 8am. No one was injured but Abilene police have released and image of the suspect from the Family Dollar store robbery.
Police describe the man as a black male in his 40's, approximately 5 foot 9 inches tall, medium build and wearing a camouflage-type jacket with a white undershirt. He was last seen fleeing on a bicycle.
A Family Dollar employee told APD dispatch that she had been robbed by a male suspect who demanded money and flashed a handgun.
APD said they are not drawing any connections between the robberies at this time.
Just blocks away in the Westmoreland area one neighbor said she's staying alert.
"I need to be a little bit more cautious, to make sure my doors are locked more than normal," Barbara Yancey said.
Yancey said she's been relying on her tight knit community to keep an eye out.
"That's why neighbors have got to watch out for each other," Yancey said. "I'm always looking and if I see something suspicious I let the neighbors know."
Police said timing is important in cracking this case.
"In both of these cases here, the suspect was not found," APD Public Information Officer George Spindler said. "We've learned that the second robbery there was a delayed reporting involved in that."
Yancey said, "It wouldn't hurt to have a little bit more security, especially now."
Right now, police have no one in custody for either robbery. They said they are using all leads to track down suspects.
