Dyess crew chief indicted for alleged child sex crimes

A Dyess Force Base crew chief was arrested during April 2013 for allegedly sexually abusing a child for several months.

Abilene police executed a search warrant at the home of 28-year-old Steven Bennett in south Abilene. According to police, 50 pieces of evidence were found in Bennett’s home that corroborated the allegations.

The alleged victim was under the age of 14 and was assaulted multiple times over several months, the police report said. Officers interviewed Bennett at the Taylor County Law Enforcement Center and said he also corroborated the victim's allegations.

A Dyess Air Force Base crew chief was indicted Thursday for three alleged child sex crimes.

Steven Bennett, 29, was arrested in March after police searched his south Abilene home. According to an arrest report, the alleged victim was under the age of 14 and the crime dates back to Oct. 2011.

Thursday a Taylor County grand jury indicted Bennett for two counts of sexual assault of a child and one count of indecency with a child.
