Some of the actors from the film titled "Stand Your Ground" are in Early for the weekend's red carpet event.
The event will be held at the Hollywood Theaters next to Heartland Mall, and it will be an opportunity for the community to meet the lead actors and real-life couple Cameron and BJ Arnett.
"People will get to come meet the stars and have the opportunity to walk the red carpet themselves, be interviewed on their thoughts prior and after the film. I think people will really enjoy themselves and walk away with something to think about," Arnett said. "Since we've been here, we've met some wonderful people."
"Stand Your Ground" is based on a true story about a man who is accused of murder and the trials he goes through both in and out of the courtroom. It also revolves around the Stand Your Ground laws, which are about using deadly force in self-defense cases.
"You can stand your ground. No one has the right to come and do you bodily harm," Cameron said. "You can defend yourself. That's the simplicity of the law...We have to understand each other's rights. We have to have respect for each other and I think that's what's relevant about this. It's what's in the news right now. It's what's happening to people and it's affecting all of us and so this is a very timely film."
"I think this film will give you a different way of thinking, a different way of understanding. I want people to walk away with an absolute understanding of what we need to do as a nation. We need to stop and think about the things that we do, the things that we say and how we move. We need to no longer sit back and take action in our lives," Arnett said.
Cameron said the hardest part of working on the film is knowing that the plot is a true story.
Arnett said they chose to visit Early because it is thriving in terms of independent and Christian film-making. The red carpet event will last through Sunday.
