The Brown County community has the opportunity to make a difference and help kids get ready to go back to school.
The Heartland Mall in Early kicked off its "Stuff the Truck" event Friday morning, in an effort to get the community to donate school supplies to those who can't afford them.
Organizers at the mall teamed up with Brownwood's Salvation Army. Kids who have registered through the Salvation Army will be the first to benefit from whatever is collected.
"There are about 600 kids on my list right now," Salvation Army director Donna Harris said.
"I think it's good to help the kids who aren't able to get the school supplies," Dazzling Divas store manager Sarah Walker said. "Early and Brownwood are very school-related so I know that everybody will get their stuff in and help these kids out."
Walker said receiving donations will help kids have a more enjoyable school year so they won't feel left out or unprepared.
People simply bring the school supplies and dump them in the back of a truck, which they will see upon entering the mall's main entrance. The event wraps up on Sunday.
