Eastland police search for woman who stole hundreds in items from Goodwill

People stealing from Goodwill centers is a problem in all 35 counties that Goodwill West Texas serves.

Vice President of Operations for Goodwill West Texas Jim Tredennick said it has a lot to do with when donors decide to drop off.

"Our donors are trying to help us with donations and unfortunately they leave them at times when they are unattended," Tredennick said.

Sunday night, a woman backed her late-model Chevy pickup truck up to the dropoff point at the Eastland Goodwill center. Surveillance video caught her stealing bag after bag of donated merchandise.

"It happens every night around 8, 9, even midnight," said store manager Micaela Price. "But it's every night. Every single night."

Thursday, the store installed more security. The organization takes the crimes seriously.

"We press charges if we can find the perpetrators or who was involved," Tredennick said.

Eastland police are also taking it seriously.

"Any type of criminal offense we take very seriously in our town," Chief of Police Billy Myrick said.

He said there are constant thefts from Goodwill.

"When you take stuff out there and set it out with nothing to protect it it makes it an open target," he said.

For the sake of an organization put in place to help those in need, they are hoping to catch the thief.

"It's really sad because you see what could have been done with the donations and then to have someone just come and take it away ... it's disheartening," said Tredennick. "My hope is that we will find her."

Anyone who recognizes the woman is urged to call Crimestoppers at 676-TIPS.

If you want to donate to Goodwill, operating hours are:

9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday- Saturday.

12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

They also do pick-ups. Just call the closest Goodwill location.
