Ex-US attorney to investigate Dallas ISD leader

DALLAS (AP) -

A former U.S. attorney has been hired by the Dallas school board to investigation allegations that Superintendent Mike Miles tried to interfere with bidding on a service contract.

Trustees of the Dallas Independent School District Superintendent Mike Miles voted Monday night to hire Paul Coggins. Investigation costs are not expected to exceed $100,000 without board approval.

Miles, who's led the district for a year, denies wrongdoing.

Miles last month tabled an item related to a vendor contract. A district spokeswoman,  Rebecca Rodriguez, later filed a complaint with internal investigators alleging Miles violated policy by freezing the contract because it was not awarded to a certain vendor.

Miles allegedly later halted the internal review.

Rodriguez resigned.

Coggins in the 1990s prosecuted DISD corruption that landed then-Superintendent Yvonne Gonzalez in prison.
