ABILENE, Texas -

A house on County Road 505 – just north of Interstate 20 and Elmdale Airpark – has been destroyed.

The home was reported to have caught fire about 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Also sustaining damage were a home next door and several storage sheds near the residence.

Two people were home at the time of the blaze. Two cats have been found, but one remains missing.

Brent Fox, who lived in the home says they lost everything.  But he's thankful for his neighbors.  "The chicken coop went down and took the trailer with it.  We got all the animals out, one of the cats didn't make it" said Brent Fox, who lived in the home. He says they lost everything, but he's thankful for neighbors.  "We've got wonderful neighbors.  A lot of people stopped by when they saw the smoke to make sure we were safe and tried to help our neighbor from losing his shed and his house."

An Abilene fire official said the fire was hard to fight because no fire hydrants were in the area.

Firefighters from Abilene and Hamby fought the blaze.
