Hawley softball aiming for state

Hawley softball is on the verge of a perfect season. There are only a couple of games left before the playoffs, and these Bearcats are focused on one thing.
"It is a win or bust," says Senior Catcher Maci Brewer.
After a disappointing 7-6 loss in the state semifinals in 2013, they're stopping at nothing to get back.
"It was definitely devastating last year to lose in that game," recalled Head Coach Amber Riddle Cottingham. "But they can taste it, and they want it, and they're driving. Right now they're working hard for it. Driven."
From day one of the preseason, the Bearcats have been using that loss as motivation.
"Even in our classrooms on some of our boards," says Brewer. "We have it written up on top the score that it ended for us."
"Looking at it just makes us go," added Senior Second Baseman Vannessa Rubio. "When we go to practice, we need to to go 100 percent, and sometimes we feel like missing workouts, but then we think, like we just look up at that score and we're like whelp, we better go in there and get better."
For those seven seniors, it's more than just about bringing home the championship trophy.
"All of us have been playing for long together," says Brewer. "It's so nice, it's a big relief, like we know each other, we play as a team."
"Growing up with all of these girls, we've all come together as a family, so playing with them is so easy," added Rubio.
At the end of the day, it's all about one thing for Hawley.
"We keep saying, play for the little girl that fell in love with the game," says Cottingham. "That's where we're at right now."
"Honestly, [winning state] would mean the world," says Brewer. "Softball is my life and that's the goal."
