ABILENE, Texas -

The Abilene animal shelter and Rescue the Animals SPCA are hosting a large pet adoption this weekend.

It's taking place at PetSmart on Catclaw drive this Friday and Saturday.

Paul Washburn with the Rescue the Animals organization, says area shelters are full, and more than 200 dogs and cats must find homes during this event.

The adoption event will be Friday from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Organizers say this could be the last chance for many of these animals to find homes.

Microchip implanting will also be available on Saturday from 10 a.m. -2 p.m. The cost is 5 dollars, that includes registration with the national registry.
