MITCHELL COUNTY, Texas -

Below is a press release from the Texas Department of Transportation regarding diversions on I-20 in Mitchell County due to multiple car crashes:

"Multiple wrecks on I-20 between Mile Markers 226 and 228 have made it necessary to divert traffic from the main lanes in both directions. Crews are working to clear the incidents and expect to reopen the main lanes in about half an hour.

Winter weather and freezing precipitation are causing very hazardous driving conditions. Patches of black ice have been reported along the I-20 corridor from Eastland to Odessa. Conditions are expected to deteriorate tonight. Travel is strongly discouraged. Those who must drive should slow down, increase following distance and turn off cruise control."
