Numerous accidents are being reported on Abilene area roads this morning.
Accidents have been recorded on I-20, Hwy 277, Winters Freeway, Hwy 36, Hwy 83/84 heading south toward Tuscola and on various county roads.
On I-20 at Hwy 351, for example, an 18-wheeler on its side -- the result of an accident -- backed up traffic and caused it to be diverted off the interstate.
"Freezing fog/drizzle is now being reported in most counties within TxDOT's Abilene District and has moved into areas of the Brownwood District, including Eastland and Coleman Counties," TxDOT spokeswoman Darah Wardrip said in an email.
"Black ice continues to be a major concern. Numerous wrecks have occurred in affected areas," Waldrip said.
TxDOT's Amarillo, Childress, and Wichita Falls districts are also reporting icy conditions.
"Drivers are strongly encouraged to delay travel until conditions improve," Waldrip said.
Meanwhile, one of the Abilene accidents involved a vehicle reportedly going airborne on Hwy 83/84 near Beltway South.
Crews working a wreck on Winters Freeway were having a hard time walking. They encouraged people to stay home and off the roads if possible.
A caller said roads appear to be extremely slick south of Abilene near Tuscola. A number of cars are reportedly in the ditch.
A caller from Hamby said Hwy 351 and Hwy 604 are solid ice.
