Killeen man pleads guilty to killing neighbor
(AP) - A Central Texas man who intervened in a domestic dispute at his apartment complex has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for killing his neighbor.
Prosecutors in Belton say Juston Cole Fletcher of Killeen was charged with murder in the 2011 fatal shooting but pleaded guilty to manslaughter in a plea deal. The 25-year-old ex-Fort Hood soldier was sentenced Friday over the death of 23-year-old Anthony Paxson.
Officials say the victim and his wife had a history of domestic violence and were drinking and arguing prior to the shooting. They lived in the apartment below Fletcher's unit.
Investigators say Fletcher yelled at the couple to be quiet, confronted Paxson and the men shoved each other. Police say Fletcher went to his home and retrieved a rifle - shooting Paxson.
