Lin's Sportswear is closing after decades on South 14th Street.
Lin Rushing and her husband Larry have been in the clothing business in Abilene for more than 40 years. They used to own four shops on South 14th Street, but Lin's Sportswear will be the last one to close.
"I can’t imagine it not being here," said Mary Haan, who is a Lin’s Sportswear customer.
Customers who have shopped at Lin's Sportswear for years are buying up what they can during the store's final days.
"It was the first sportswear shop in Abilene, the first ski store in Abilene, and we had the first big and tall men shopping Abilene," Lin said.
The shop has outfitted three generations of Abilene women.
"It's going to be sad. I'm going to be sad because I've had a lot of customers that have shopped with us for 43 years," Lin Rushing said.
Why are they closing?
"It's time to go on and time to move on. Times are changing and that's good. That's what life's all about," Lin said.
Although she's looking forward to spending more time at home, Lin said there are many faces she will miss. Many of her customers feel the same way.
"It's going to be sad because she's been here forever. She's always smiling, she's always a part of our lives and the store is as well," Haan said.
A specific date hasn’t been set for closing the store yet, but she said she is looking to lease out her building as soon as she clears out the merchandise.
