Man gets prison for stealing mail in South Texas
(AP) - An armed felon in South Texas has been sentenced to more than six years in prison for stealing mail.
A federal judge in San Antonio on Friday sentenced 28-year-old John Michael Hawkins. Hawkins last summer pleaded guilty to possession of stolen mail and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
San Antonio police last February arrested Hawkins and confiscated stolen mail and a number of credit cards and checks in the names of other people. Investigators say Hawkins had personal documents such as U.S. passports and driver's licenses belonging to other individuals. A revolver was also recovered.
Records show Hawkins, who was sentenced to 77 months in prison, has prior convictions for burglary, unauthorized use of a vehicle, vehicle theft and evading arrest.
