NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas -

A missing 14-year-old girl who was traveling with a 26-year-old sex offender has been found safe in Mexico after being spotted in Abilene.

According to Dallas authorities, Ruby Contreras may have met Stephen Cox online. Her parents told police she never came home from school on April 24.

Police said she likely wasn’t aware that he's a convicted sex offender.

From North Richland Hills, Contreras and the man were caught on a surveillance camera at a convenience store near the Abilene Greyhound bus stop.

Police said the pair was heading to El Paso by bus.

Authorities said she was found safe across the Mexican border.

Cox was scheduled to go on trial next week for sex assault of a child in Ohio.

Authorities said he cut off his ankle monitor and disappeared while he was out on bond.

Mexican authorities are working with U.S. Authorities to send Cox and Contreras back to Texas.
