Investigators on the murder case of recent McMurry University graduate Lauren Bump, 24, think she was exercising in the San Antonio park she was found dead in on New Year’s Eve.
Though no arrests have been made in connection to the tragedy, police said she was visiting her family in the area when she was killed. Her family members are offering a reward for information that can help solve her case and her 2007 O’Conner High School classmates have set up an online fundraiser.
Those who knew Lauren locally told KTXS her death is a loss not only to the community, but to the world.
“I know that me along with everyone at McMurry who knew her are just, you know, speechless and horrified at what the last minutes of her life were like,” Eddie Gonzalez, a friend and former fellow student, said. “I see through social media right now—through Facebook, you know—just people thinking, ‘Who would do this to her?’ And ‘Why?’ …I really hope that her family finds justice.”
Lauren was set to graduate from Harding University in May to fulfill her dreams of becoming a physician’s assistant.
“I don't know anyone who would want to hurt her,” Gonzalez said. “She was just so caring.”
The donations for her family have been pouring in by the thousands online. By 3 p.m. Friday, 321 donations amounting to a total of $15,860 had been made. The listed goal is $18,000.
“Some people who don't know her know what a beautiful spirit she is because of the words people say about her,” Gonzalez said. “Those who do know her are just hurting because they lost a friend, a sister, someone they were close to.”

Funeral arrangements have been set as well. There will be a celebration of Lauren's life at 1:00 p.m. on January 9 at Community Bible Church at 1604 and Gold Canyon in San Antonio.
