New Komen CEO: Work not about abortion
(AP) - The new CEO of Susan G. Komen for the Cure says she and the breast cancer charity are moving past the fight over funding Planned Parenthood that divided supporters.
Judith A. Salerno tells The Dallas Morning News (http://dallasne.ws/11xMZ2C ) that people in the organization she agreed to join are "interested in moving the organization ahead, not looking back."
Salerno wouldn't disclose her position on abortion, saying her work with Komen wouldn't be about that issue.
Salerno was named Komen's new CEO last week, replacing founder Nancy Brinker.
She served as executive director and chief operating officer of the prestigious, independent Institute of Medicine.
Komen has raised hundreds of millions, but was beset by declining attendance after pulling funding from Planned Parenthood for screenings - a decision that was quickly reversed.
