PAMPA, Texas (AP) -

A two-seater plane possibly low on fuel has crashed in the Texas Panhandle in an accident that killed the pilot and left the passenger hurt.

The Department of Public Safety said the crash happened early Tuesday on a ranch 27 miles north of Pampa.

Sr. Trooper Christopher Ray said the single-engine plane was bound from Indiana to Borger (BOR'-gher), about 25 miles northwest of the crash site. DPS didn't immediately provide the origination city.

Ray says 64-year-old Donald Sharp from Greenfield, Ind., died. The passenger, 22-year-old Zachary Jenkins of Indianapolis, was in satisfactory condition at an Amarillo hospital.

Ray said Jenkins says Sharp thought the plane had enough fuel but radioed to say where they were attempting an emergency landing.

The ranch foreman found the wreckage.
