The Skywarn seminar at Abilene Christian University helped Big Country residents prepare for dangerous weather situations.
The class is considered a refresher course for trained storm spotters, but people with general interest were invited as well.
Recognizing flash floods, lightening, hail, high winds and grass fires were some of the topics discussed.
A spokesperson told us they offer the course to residents so they can be more informed when calling the weather service with alerts.
"Weather service can only see what's on the radar and they depend on the spotters for boots on the ground to give them a better feel, a better look at what's going on 1,000 feet in the atmosphere," Bill Shaw, Big Country Skywarn leader, said.
