Two Taylor County men were arrested Tuesday after allegedly stealing a Jeep, setting it on fire and then photographing one of them standing near the vehicle as it burned.
Charged with arson and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle were Philip Lee Bacon, 19, of Buffalo Gap, and William James Fenwick, 19, of Abilene, according to the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office.
Bacon and Fenwick are being held under bonds totaling $15,000 each.
A 2009 Jeep Wrangler was taken from a Taylor County residence sometime after 10 p.m. Monday. A resident reported to the Abilene Police Department that the vehicle was on fire in the 100 block of Spinks Road in Tye.
Abilene Police Department officers contacted Bacon and Fenwick on Chapel Hill Road in Abilene. The two were taken to and questioned by Taylor County Sheriff’s Office investigators at the Law Enforcement Center, where one of them confessed, a news release said.
One of the subjects also allowed officers to examine his cell phone, which had “photos of the burning vehicle with the other suspect standing nearby” on it, the release said.
