Construction will begin Monday on a $2.7 million Texas Department of Transportation project to replace the US 180 overpass – at US 84 and I-20 near Sweetwater.
It was severely damaged when it hit by a truck in January.
Contractor Gilvin-Terrell of Amarillo is scheduled to do the work on the TxDOT project.
Weather permitting, the project should take about four months to complete. The new 238-foot structure will be a four-span bridge and will be raised two-feet.
During construction, US 180 traffic should continue to follow the detour that has been in place for several months. Plans are to place changeable message boards to direct traffic to the detour.
During some phases of construction, there may be daytime lane closures. Motorists should be very attentive when traveling in this area and watch for, warning signs, equipment and workers.
