ABILENE, Texas -

When you think of Easter you may think chocolate candy, colored eggs and of course the Easter bunny, but for most Big Country residents, Easter is about more than that.

The University Church of Christ celebrated Easter morning by focusing on what the holiday is really about.

“Easter is about the resurrection of Christ. It’s the core of our faith. Jesus rose from the dead on the third day,” said Dr. Brant Isbell, senior minister of University Church of Christ. “The tomb was found empty. Sin and everything against us has been defeated.”

Sarah Trammell, a University Church member, said teaching her children the meaning behind the holiday is important to her.

“We really teach our children that Easter is not about the bunny or the candy," Trammell said. “It’s really about Jesus."

After Sunday’s church service, kids rushed outside to participate in an Easter egg hunt.

With Easter egg baskets in hand, kids didn’t waste time collecting candy-filled eggs.
