CONROE, Texas (AP) -

As many as 20,000 marijuana plants have been discovered on several plots in a heavily wooded area north of Houston.

Conroe police on Wednesday announced discovery of the $10 million worth of plants that will be cut and burned.

Nobody was immediately arrested. Police say the plants were found on private land and the property owners weren't aware of the illegal growing operation.

Sgt. Dorcy Riddle said there's evidence of living arrangements at the scene, such as cots, water pumps and a generator. Law enforcement officers from several agencies more than a week ago put the site under surveillance but no suspects returned to the area.

Riddle said the plants were discovered during a routine drug investigation.

Conroe is 30 miles north of Houston.
