A raccoon tested positive for rabies within Abilene city limits.
According to the city of Abilene's Animal Services Division, the raccoon was found on Muirfield Street in Fairway Oaks subdivision in aouth Abilene.
No domestic animals were involved.
The Texas Department of State Health services confirmed the testing.
Animal services officials urge people to immunize all dogs and cats over the age of four months for the viral disease. Also, people should report any wild animals exhibiting unusual behavior.
Humans should immediately see a doctor if they believe they have come in contact with a rabid animal.
