Western Heritage Chuck wagon Cook-off featured in ABC primetime special
During the 29th annual Western Heritage Classic, the Taylor County Expo Center had some special guests from ABC’s popular daily cooking show The Chew visit from New York to participate in Western Heritage Classic (WHC) events.
Chef Carla Hall and her crew came to Abilene, Texas to feature Western Heritage Classic’s Chuckwagon Cook-off as part of The Chew’s upcoming primetime special, “Ultimate BBQ Cookout Countdown” airing this Saturday, May 25, 8pm./CT.
The 15 Chuckwagons entered in the competition were challenged to prepare chicken fried steak, bread, potatoes, beans and dessert using metal and cast iron cooking tools, over an open fire, with basic ingredients; without modern kitchen appliances and essentials. Chef Hall participated in the cook-off by judging the dessert portion of the competition.
Tune in to ABC this Saturday to watch Carla as she learned how to prepare a meal just the way it would have been done on a cattle drive at the turn of the century. Western Heritage Classic is a celebration of the Western way of life and Chef Carla Hall learned just how proud Texans are of their heritage and now has a better understanding of Texas culture.
