ABILENE, Texas -

Hardin-Simmons’ women’s soccer team hit the field for the first time together as a team on Monday afternoon at the HSU Soccer Complex.

Head Coach Marcus Wood welcomed in 34 players to fall camp and 20 of those are returning letterwinners. The Cowgirls return eight starters from a team that went 18-1-2 in 2012 and advanced to the NCAA Sectionals.

“It is always to get everyone together for the first time,” said Wood. “We have a lot of talented players coming in and we return a veteran group as well. We will just go to work on blending that into a team.”

The Cowgirl returners are coming off of a week-long tour of Costa Rica where they went 3-0-1. HSU is ranked sixth in the preseason National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll.

HSU will open the season against Puget Sound on Aug. 30 in San Antonio.
