A 2A trio in Merkel signed National Letters of Intent at Merkel High School on Wednesday. Girl's basketball star Allison Szabo signed to play at Lubbock Christian. In football, Pat Bohannan will play receiver at Cisco Junior College and Baylor Mullins will enter college as a slot receiver.
The former QB spoke with KTXS about making the position change.
"They recruited me as a slot receiver. They also sat down and said they would find me the best position for me to play next year whether it be defensive back, wide receiver or maybe quarterback."
Baylor's father and coach Kieth told KTXS that the decision was not an easy one, "Nothing against the other schools, they were all great programs as well but it's just a gut feeling you have to go on."
A gut feeling might have been the best decider, the Mullins' told KTXS that the hardest part of the decision was having to tell recruiters who were sometimes family friends that they decided to decline.
"It was difficult making those phone calls," Coach Mullins explained, "it would have been easy if there was something we didn't like about those programs but they were all top notch."
Whatever the reason, Mullins still has some football decisions to make regarding where he will fit best on his new team. The adjustment will be something that most football fans in the Big Country will keep a close eye on.
