CROSSTOWN SOFTBALL: No time to waste for Abilene High and Cooper softball

With just over a month left in the regular season, Abilene High and Cooper softball are feeling the importance of tomorrow’s crosstown showdown at Cooper.
The lady Eagles (2-4) and lady Cougars (1-5) are both in the bottom half of the 2-5A district standings. Tomorrow’s game could potentially give the winning team much needed momentum after sub par starts to district play.
"This is a game we've been kind of building and practicing for,” says first year head coach Lauren Mendoza. “This is always a good one to win I mean it always feels good especially on your home field to take of business."
"The spirit of this rivalry has been exciting as long as I've been here in every sport,” says Abilene high head coach Shay Cox. “It's the one you do look forward to you know your kids are up for it you don't have to get them ready for it. There's a big crowd and that's always great," added Cox.
The urgency to stay in the playoff race is more than motivation for teams to win. For Cooper, Mendoza’s young team continues to learn the ropes of winning big games.
“We have a lot of freshmen,” says Lauren Mendoza. “At least four of them are starting. We’re really learning, building, going through the process as a young team.”
Abilene High and Cooper will meet Tuesday March 19th, 4:30pm at Cooper high school.
