ABILENE, Texas -

Texas-Dallas shot 57.4 percent and pulled away down the stretch in a 79-66 win over Hardin-Simmons in American Southwest Conference women’s basketball action at the Mabee Complex on Saturday afternoon.

Both teams came out hot and the teams basically traded baskets in the first half. HSU was 14-for-30 in the first half and UTD went 15-for-25 and both teams hit four 3-pointers and eight free throws to give UTD a 42-40 advantage at the half.

In the second half, the teams again went shot-for-shot with each other and the game was tied at 50 after an Alexis Popelar jumper with 13:52 to play.

The Comets then went on the first big run for either team in the game with a 9-0 spurt over the next 3:55 to take a 59-50 lead with 9:38 to play.

The closest the Cowgirls would get the rest of the way was five points at 65-60 with 4:43 to play. UTD then scored on six of their next seven possessions and the Cowgirls went 0-for-3 with two turnovers in that span.

Popelar was the only HSU player in double figures in the game. Amber Brown led five Comets in double figures with 25 points and she added seven assists and five rebounds.

HSU saw its three-game winning streak snapped and it fell to 3-3 on the year and 1-1 in ASC action. Texas-Dallas improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play.  HSU will return to action on Thursday at East Texas Baptist.
