Cowboys finish fourth at ASC CC Championship

CLINTON, Miss. -

Hardin-Simmons’ men’s cross country team had its highest finish ever at the American Southwest Conference Championship with a fourth-place finish at the Choctaw Trails in Clinton, Miss.

Freshman Chad Caton was named the ASC Freshman of the Year after he placed third in the meet to pace the Cowboys. He ran the 8K course in a school-record time of 26:39.

Fellow freshmen Paul Demmings and Clay Smith finished 18th and 19th respectively with times of 27:52 and 28:03.  Chace Copp ran a 29:47 to place 43rd and Jonathan Hollon was 45th with a 29:50 to round out the scoring lineup.

Tyson Denton ran a 30:04 for a 47th place finish and Luke Wells ran a 31:05 for a 59th place finish. All seven HSU runners ran a career-best time.

Texas-Tyler ran away from the field placing all five runners in the top eight and finishing with 26 points. Mississippi College was second with 68 points. LeTourneau was third with 106 points, HSU had 110 to place fourth and Concordia was fifth with 130 points.

Nicklas Huff of Texas-Tyler won the individual race with a time of 26:12.

Caton will advance to the Regional meet with his third place finish and the rest of the Cowboys season concluded with the race.
