Cowboys finish sixth, Mileger finishes career as All-ASC performer

LUFKIN, Texas -

Hardin-Simmons’ men’s golf team moved up one spot to finish sixth in the 2013 American Southwest Conference Championship at the par-72, 6,692-yard Crown Colony Golf Club in Lufkin.

HSU shot 329 in the final round to match its second round score. HSU finished the tournament 319-329-329-977. Schreiner won its first American Southwest Conference title in its final year in the league. The Mountaineers won by 22 shots over Texas-Tyler and by 56 shots over the Cowboys.

Schreiner shot 921, Texas-Tyler shot 943. Louisiana College was third with a 951, Texas-Dallas was fourth with a 962, UMHB was fifth with a 963 and the Cowboys finished sixth. Texas Lutheran, Concordia, Mississippi College and LeTourneau rounded out the field.

The Cowboys were paced by senior Tyler Mileger, who shot 82-75-77-234 to place eighth and earn second-team all-ASC honors. He was the lone senior for the Cowboys.

Sean Aleman shot 81-80-84-245 and finished tied for 20th overall. Brandon Heard had a 78-81-87-246. Ryan Hughes rebounded with an 81 on Tuesday after rounds of 78 and 93 on Monday to give him a 252 total. Mike Hursh had rounds of 90-104-97.

Cheyne Kendall of Schreiner shot 74-74-73 to win the medalist race by seven strokes.

The tournament concluded the season for HSU.
