Cowgirls finish fourth at ASC Championship

LUFKIN, Texas -

Hardin-Simmons’ women’s golf team placed fourth in the American Southwest Conference Championship at the par-72, 5,842-yard Crown Colony Golf Club in Lufkin. 

Mary Hardin-Baylor rallied for the team title after being in second place after the first round. The Cru shot 315 to win the title by 26 shots over Texas-Tyler 656-682. Schreiner was third with a 687 total. HSU shot 359-373 for a 732 total. Texas Lutheran was fifth at 738 and Concordia placed sixth at 823.

Freshman Dylan Dawson led the Cowgirls with an 88-92-19- in her first ASC Championship. She placed 16th. Kacy Bartlett shot 86-95-181, Kyla Stanton shot 89-96-185, Kara Doege shot 96-92-188 and Traci Tschirhart shot 99-94-193.

Sophomore Taylor O’Rear of Mary Hardin-Baylor won her second straight ASC medalist title with an 82-80-162. She beat teammate Sara Exkert by one shot. 

The tournament concluded the 2012-13 season for the Cowgirls. All seven players for this year’s team will be back for the 2013-14 season.
