Hardin-Simmons’ softball team pushed its winning streak to six games with an American Southwest Conference doubleheader sweep of Schreiner on Thursday evening in Kerrville, winning 9-0 in six innings and 4-0 in the nightcap.
HSU jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning. The Cowgirls scored a pair of runs in the first inning on an RBI sacrifice by Mac Clay and an RBI single by Carley Willis in the first and Clay had a two-run single in the second inning.
The Cowgirls pushed the lead to 7-0 with three runs in the fourth inning. Clay had a two-run single and Sydnie Darden had an RBI single.
HSU went up 9-0 on a two-run single by Willis in the sixth to put the run-rule in order.
Brittany Acosta moved to 5-8 on the year with six shutout innings in the circle. She allowed just five hits and struck out four batters.
Clay was 2-for-2 with five RBIs in the game and Willis had two hits and drove in three runs for HSU. Willis, Darden, Sarah Truelove and Jayton Gordon also all had two hits for HSU.
Jana Masters took the loss in the circle and five different Schreiner players had hits.
Carol Swindell tossed a complete-game shutout allowing just four hits to improve to 3-7 on the year.
Darden gave the Cowgirls a 2-0 lead in the third inning with a two-run single. Tera Davis had a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning and Darden stole home on the back end of a double steal for a run in the fifth inning.
Darden and Gordon each had three hits for HSU and Tera Davis added two hits. Ally Morris took the loss in the circle for SU, allowing four runs on nine hits. Callie Ceaser had two hits for SU.
HSU is now 8-15-1 on the year and 6-4 in ASC play. Schreiner fell to 2-25 overall and 2-12 in conference action. The teams will play an 11 a.m. doubleheader on Friday.
