Cross Country preps to close out season at NCCAA meet

Published On: Nov 09 2012 10:36:11 AM CST

CEDARVILLE, Ohio -

McMurry University's cross country teams will be looking to put a cap on an already successful season when the teams participate in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) national championships, hosted by Cedarville University. The NCCAA's women's 5K race steps off at 9 a.m. (CT), followed by the men's 8K at 9:45 a.m. (CT), on the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course.

McM head coach David Chandler will take along rosters that are both young in years, but long on valuable experience.

The War Hawk women will send a total of six entrants the 32nd annual NCCAA women's championship race.

Brittney McGuire is the “eldest” member of the women's – as well as the entire McM – contingent, as the lone senior making the trip. Sophomores Alyssa Fields and Chantel Ruffin, along with redshirt freshman Lauren Peery and true frosh CeCe Ramirez and Mary Affleck, round out the team.

The McM men will be sending a five-member squad comprised of one junior, one sophomore and three freshmen. Shane Floyd and Michael Dowd, are the most experienced members, respectively.  Freshmen Hector Flores, Trent Fulk and Bo Porter complete the War Hawks' unit at the 40th annual NCCAA men's championship event.

“I think we're set up really nice to have our best race at this last meet (at the NCCAA's),” said Chandler. “The ones that are most consistent in the results are the ones that improve, the ones that have the positive attitudes, and the ones that make the biggest impact on the team.

“We want to finish in the top-10 on both sides.  That's what we are going for.

“Our consistency throughout the past couple weeks has been good. The course (at Cedarville University) is a very good course. The weather looks great. There's no excuses; it's time to roll!”
