LAWERENCE, Kan. -

McMurry junior shot putter Paul Davis unleashed a school-record heave of 61' 0 ¼” to win his event at the Kansas Jayhawk Classic, highlighting the War Hawks' entries in the event. Davis' mark is also the 13th-best mark in the nation on the qualifying list for the 2013 USA Indoor Track & Field Championship meet (held March 2-3 in Albuquerque, N.M.).

Davis extended his own McM indoor shot record – which we set just two weeks ago at Texas Tech – by 1' 1 ¾” (previously 59' 10 ½”). He won the Jayhawk Classic by nearly four-and-one-half feet over the runner-up in the event.

For the second week in a row, McMurry's indoor triple jump record went by the wayside. Chris Ogle leaped 46' 6”, placing ninth at the Classic.  He surpassed the mark of 46' 4 ¾” set last Saturday by teammate Dillon Wilkins at Texas Tech's Masked Rider Open.

Jujuan Austin placed tied for fourth place out of 30 competitors in the high jump, clearing 6' 6 ¾”. In the long jump, Isaac Hamilton was 24th (20 11 ¾”).

In the men's 200 meters, sprint specialist Trevon Odom was third out of a field of 41 runners. Odom crossed the line at 22.66 seconds. He was also 24th in the 60 meters (7.07).

War Hawk newcomer Lance Andrews placed 14th out of 44 entrants in the 400 meters. Andrews booked a time of 51.50.

The Distance Medley Relay team of Luke Scribner, Chevante Bell, Anthony Todd and Brandon Porter placed 11th of 25 entries. The unit posted a time of 10:48.60, just 17/100ths of a second off the McM school record.

The 4x400 relay team finished sixth (3:26.02). Desmond Williams, Willie Poindexter, Odom and Andrews made up the team.

On the women's side, sophomore Tiana Alexander was her team's top placer in both the triple and long jump events. In the triple jump, Alexander was 10th overall with a mark of 36' 10 ½”. In the long jump competition, she placed 11th with a leap of 17' 8 ½”.

Alexander also finished 30th out of 53 in the 60 meter dash (8.11 seconds).

Jasmine Williams turned in a 10th place finish (out of 26 entries) in the women's 400 meters. Williams had a time of 1:00.38.

Purity Hooper was 19th in the 200 meters, crossing the line at 26.67.

The women's Distance Medley Relay quartet of Lauren Peery, Brittany Liggins, Mercedes Bietendorf and CeCe Ramirez was 10th in a time of 13:30.06.
