HSU softball postseason fate comes down to the final four games against HPU
It all comes down to this! A chance for Hardin-Simmons softball to make a stand on their home field, and cap off an incredible surge after opening the year with 15 losses in its first 18 games.
HSU (11-22-1, 9-11 ASC) has split its last 16 games heading into the pivotal series against Howard Payne. The Cowgirls are sitting at 5th in the conference standings, only one game behind 4th-place Concordia (21-13, 10-10 ASC).
While HSU does not control its playoff destiny, it can help itself dearly with a sweep of the Yellow Jackets. HPU comes to Abilene for the final four games of its regular-season schedule. But at 12-8 in conference play, yielding too many losses to the Cowgirls could end their chances at making the ASC tournament.
Sr. infielder Julia Bradley told KTXS Sports, there is pressure as well as comfort in knowing the final games will be played on their home field.
"It's a big deal, obviously we'll have a lot of people so that will be a plus for us. It is our home field so that will be an advantage," Bradley said.
Sr. right fielder Shelby McIntyre touched on the bitter-sweet feeling these final games bring.
"I'm a little sad it will be my last time to take the field here at Hardin-Simmons, but hopefully we can pull a sweep out and move on to conference next weekend."
The first game of Friday's double-header starts at 2:00pm Friday, with the second coming shortly after. Saturday marks the last day of competition. The first of Saturday's DH starts at noon.
