GREENVILLE, South Carolina -

McMurry University junior Paul Davis (Lubbock, Texas/Coronado H.S.) has been named as the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) national Student-Athlete of the Week for men's indoor track and field, it was announced on Tuesday.  Davis is the War Hawks' second-consecutive winner of the weekly award (triple jumper Dillon Wilkins won last week).

Davis unleashed a school-record heave of 61' 0 ¼” to win the shot put at the Kansas Jayhawk Classic. Davis' mark is also the 13th-best mark in the nation on the qualifying list for the 2013 USA Indoor Track & Field Championship meet (held March 2-3 in Albuquerque, N.M.).

Davis extended his own McM indoor shot record – which we set just two weeks ago at Texas Tech – by 1' 1 ¾” (previously 59' 10 ½”). He won the Jayhawk Classic by nearly four-and-one-half feet over the runner-up in the event.

“What a tremendous individual,” said McM head coach Barbara Crousen of Davis. “It's so nice to see him receive an award like this, especially because he is so humble and unassuming, it is never something he would seek out.

“Paul's success in the shot put is a direct result of his work ethic, which is second to none. It is not unusual to see him working on each component of the shot put in his spare time; he works to perfect the little nuances to make his entire effort become that much better.

“And the best part about Paul is that, as good as he is athletically, he is even more solid as an individual and as a Christian young man.”
