The McMurry board of trustees voted to save three sports in its scheduled meeting Friday.
Entering the day, the fates of men's Soccer and men's & women's Swimming were unknown. The board had the choice to end the sports altogether.
Athletic Director Ron Holmes tells KTXS his department did a program review of all 19 sports. They evaluated all sports and presented what life would be like with and without these three sports.
After the presentation, the board voted to keep all three.
Reaction to the news spread across campus and the community quickly. So fast, the men's Soccer team started a petition which gathered some 500 signatures.
When KTXS spoke to McMurry Athletics earlier in the week, they ointed out the average number of sports in their conference (Heartland), and the Lone Star Conference. The Heartland averages 12 sports per school, the LSC averages 10.
