ABILENE, Texas -

The small window to enjoy high school football in the Spring is almost coming to a close. Later this week, Abilene High will hold its annual Spring game, and head coach Steve Warren is looking forward to seeing the progress his Eagles have made in the off-season.

In particular, he's pleased with the progress of soon-to-be senior Quarterback, Derek Scott.

"Derek will be the first to tell you we didn't have a great season last year, and certainly he's the leader, one of the leaders, and he wants to finish strong for his career and I want him to as well," Warren told KTXS.

The Eagles (3-7, 3-5 District 2-5A) missed the playoffs last season for the first time this millenium.

Scott will be a key cog to Warren's entire War Bird machine next season. The junior signal-caller threw over 2-thousand passing yards in 2013, including 20 passing touchdowns and just six interceptions.

"He's had a great spring, and I don't think there is any doubt that he'll do that (be a leader)," Warren said.

Abilene High's Spring game is this Friday night, 7:15 pm at Shotwell Stadium.
