ACU men knock off Bacone, 90-63
The ACU Wildcats hit a season-best 11 3-pointers Tuesday night as they rolled past Bacone College, 90-63, in non-conference men's college basketball action at Moody Coliseum.
The win is the second straight for the Wildcats in this four-game December homestand and pushes their record to 4-8. ACU will play the third game in the homestand Wednesday against Open Bible College. Those same teams will hook up again at 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 30, before ACU begins Southland Conference play Jan. 9 at New Orleans.
The Wildcats led 35-22 at halftime, thanks to an 11-0 run over the final 3:34 of the first half. ACU led the Warriors 24-22 before the 11-0 run, which was keyed by LaDarrien Williams, who had five of his game-high 22 points in the spurt. Michael Grant added four more and Riley Payne scored on a jumper at the buzzer to give ACU a 13-point lead at the break.
ACU then opened the second half on the 15-2 run the sealed the win. Williams again sparked that run with seven points, while Parker Wentz and Austin Cooke each added three points and Jacob Lancaster had two points.
The Wildcats capped the outburst with three straight 3-pointers from Wiliams, Wentz and Cooke.
The Wildcats' 11 3-pointers in the game topped their previous season-high of 10 set against Maryland on Nov. 13 and tied against Northern New Mexico on Nov. 23. The 25 attempts tied the season-high set in the season-opener at Duquesne.
Williams finished with a game-high 22 points to go along with eight rebounds, four assists, two blocks and one steal. Wentz had 14 points, five assists and four rebounds, while Julian Edmonson had 16 points off the bench on 4 of 9 shooting, including 3 of 7 from 3-point range.
