ASC weekly honors announced, Ramos named special teams player of the week

AMERICAN SOUTHWEST CONFERENCE FOOTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Week 10 Games: November 9, 2013

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Ryan Montague, RB, Sr., Louisiana College

Running back Ryan Montague (New Orleans, La./ St. Augustine HS) set a new LC school record for career touchdowns with his 24-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, the 36th of his career. Montague would end up scoring two more touchdowns on the day to bring his career total to 38. He also tied Wayne Davis for first on LC’s all-time list for most career 100 yard games (15). Montague’s first two touchdowns brought LC from behind. His first score tied the game (14-14), and his second touchdown brought it to a 21-21 score. For the game, Montague ran 21 times for 107 yards and two touchdowns and caught two passes for 35 yards and added another score.

Co-DEFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: Dominic Graham, LB, Sr., Louisiana College

Linebacker Dominic Graham (Houston, Texas/Kashmere HS) continued his amazing play over the past two weeks as he racked up 18 tackles in a 42-28 win, giving Mississippi College its first conference loss of the season, and secured LC's first undefeated home slate in the modern era of LC football. Graham has now collected 35 tackles over his past two games, as he had 17 a week before against No. 23 Texas Lutheran. Graham is now tied for second in the ASC in tackles with 102 for the season.

Co-DEFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: Deshon Kinsey, LB, Jr., Mary Hardin-Baylor

Linebacker Deshon Kinsey (Woodway, Texas/Mart HS) tied a school record with 18 total tackles and he added 3.5 tackles for loss in another dominating defensive performance for the Cru. Kinsey led an UMHB defense that allowed just 53 rushing yards and 10 points to secure the school’s 10th consecutive NCAA tournament appearance.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jessie Ramos, WR/KR, So., Hardin-Simmons

Wide receiver Jessie Ramos (Stamford, Texas/ Stamford HS) had a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, his fifth career kickoff return for a score, which set a school record. He had 163 yards in kickoff returns and also had seven catches for 84 yards.

 

OTHER TOP PERFORMANCES

OFFENSIVE: Hardin-Simmons senior running back Tevin Mitchell ran for 197 yards and had four touchdowns for the Cowboys. He now has 2,030 yards for his two-year career … Howard Payne senior wide receiver Tristian Fuentes had eight catches for a career high 122 yards and two touchdowns … Mary Hardin-Baylor sophomore quarterback Zach Anderson accounted for four total touchdowns despite playing very little of the third quarter and none of the fourth. He accounted for 344 total yards of offense and did not turn the ball over … Mississippi College junior quarterback Jonathan Redd threw for 248 yards and three touchdowns, while rushing for 30 yards and a score. He has accounted for 24 touchdowns (14 pass, 10 rush) in the past six games … Sul Ross State junior wide receiver Del Wilson scored twice in the second quarter to bring the Lobos back from a 19-0 deficit to trail at halftime by only four points. Wilson led SRSU with five receptions for 78 yards and two touchdowns against Howard Payne.

DEFENSIVE: Hardin-Simmons sophomore defensive end Ryne Lewis had a dominating performance for the Cowboys. He had seven tackles, 2.5 sacks, forced a fumble, recovered another fumble and had an interception … Howard Payne freshman linebacker Jason Disney led the HPU defense with 13 tackles, five for loss, one sack, two forced fumbles, two pass breakups and one interception … Mississippi College junior linebacker Brandon Glass had eight tackles with 2.0 tackles for loss, one sack and an interception against Louisiana College … Sul Ross State junior linebacker Damian Stevens made eight tackles in the first half, had 11 more in the second half, and was instrumental in Lobos' defensive effort in the third quarter that kept the game within striking distance. Stevens led the team with 19 tackles, three solos and 16 assisted tackles, in Saturday's game at Howard Payne.

SPECIAL TEAMS: Howard Payne senior punter/strong safety Josh Eppler punted five times for 201 yards, a 40.2 average, with a long of 57 yards. Four were inside the 20-yard line. Eppler also led the secondary with four breakups and seven tackles … Mary Hardin-Baylor senior punter Chad Peevey punted six times for a 43.5 yard average. He pinned ETBU at its own two-yard line with one of those boots … Mississippi College freshman punter Willie Collard punted five times for an average of 40.0 yards with two landing inside the 20-yard line and one on the seven-yard line.
