After being named the Heartland Conference's Hitter of the Week yesterday, the big week for McMurry's Cody Howard continued, as he was named the National Christian College Athletic Association's Baseball Student Athlete of the Week, today.
This is the second award of the week for Howard who is being recognized for his outstanding performance in a four-game series against Newman last week. The left-handed hitting first baseman/outfielder hit 10-for-15 with three, extra-base hits in four games. He totaled a double, two home runs and six RBI on the week, and had a slugging percentage of 1.333.
In the final home double-header of the season, Howard knocked a two-run home run in both contests and even went a perfect four-for-four in game two, reaching base all five times he came to bat.
Currently on the season, Howard ranks seventh in the Heartland Conference in batting average (.321) and slugging percentage (.448). He also leads the team in RBI with 17 and in home runs (4), which also puts him in second place in the conference in that category.
Howard becomes the first McMurry baseball player to win a National Player of the Week award this season.
