FRISCO, Texas -

A 2-0 weekend for the Abilene Christian soccer team helped seniors and make the Southland Conference's weekly list of honorable mention performers.

Carpenter, the league's leading scorer with six goals, has been named honorable mention the last two weeks, while Buschman - a defender - is a first-time honoree.

Despite scoring four goals last weekend, including two in ACU's 2-1 double overtime victory at Drury, Carpenter lost Offensive Player of the Week honors to Spencer Valdespino of Nicholls. Valdespino scored three times in last week's wins over Mississippi Valley and UL-Lafayette and dished out two assists. In the win over UL-Lafayette, she scored both of Nicholls' goals including the game-winner with nine seconds remaining in the match.

Making the honorable mention list alongside Carpenter were Yvette Franco of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Zuri Prince of Stephen F. Austin.

Carpenter, who will be in action with the Wildcats again tonight at Midwestern State, has six goals through five games after having five during all of last year's injury-shortened campaign. After scoring twice in a blowout 5-0 win at John Brown, Carpenter provided ACU with a pair of go-ahead goals at Drury - first in the 39th minute and then in the 102nd minute to break a 1-1 deadlock and send the Wildcats off to a 4-0-1 start. Carpenter's most recent four-goal weekend was on Sept. 30-Oct. 2, 2011 vs. Texas Woman's and Texas A&M-Commerce.

Buschman was one of four Southland Conference defensive players making the honorable mention list along with Dani Gonzalez of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Meghan Lanteigne of Nicholls and Chelsea Villaescusa of Southeastern Louisiana.

Buschman played every minute of the Wildcats' road victories and helped anchor a defensive line that shutout John Brown on six shots (three on goal) and limited Drury to three (two on goal) attempts though two overtimes. Additionally, neither opponent recorded a single corner kick.

ACU currently has two shutouts this year and two games in which the opponent was limited to a single goal.

Kelly Ann Craig of Stephen F. Austin was voted Defensive Player of the Week. Against New Mexico State, the freshman helped the Ladyjacks record their fourth shutout of the season with a 2-0 win. She then scored her first collegiate goal in a comeback effort against UTEP in SFA's double overtime 2-1 win.

Houston Baptist's Stephanie Castellon and SFA's Lacey Lee were voted Co-Goalkeepers of the Week.

Each school's sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his or her own player. To receive honorable mention, a student-athlete must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
