Titus Mims scored a career-best 21 points and Hardin-Simmons; men’s basketball team won its fifth straight game with a 74-37 win over LeTourneau in American Southwest Conference action at the Solheim Center in Longview.
The Cowboys never trailed in the game and tool an early 24-13 lead. Mims had 13 of his points in that opening run. HSU eventually led 40-16 in the first half and led 40-20 at halftime.
LeTourneau came out and scored the first nine points of the second half and Carse inserted his five freshman as a unit and they stabilized the game and HSU continued to push out the lead. The starters came back and pushed the lead to 66-33 and went back to the bench with 6:13 to play.
The freshmen finished out the game on the floor together and HSU won its fifth straight game.
Derrick Jefferson had 12 points and seven steals for the Cowboys. Charles Sams had 12 points on four 3-pointers. Justin Jones was the only LeTourneau player in double figures with 18 points.
HSU shot 46.7 percent in the game and limited LeTourneau to 26.3 percent shooting. The Cowboys scored 25 points off of 20 LeTourneau turnovers.
The Cowboys are now 6-6 overall and 6-3 in ASC play. LeTourneau fell to 2-10 and 1-8 in ASC action. HSU hosts Concordia on Thursday at the Mabee Complex.
