Cowboys Soccer Picked Fifth In ASC Preseason Poll

RICHARDSON, Texas -

Hardin-Simmons’ men’s soccer team has been picked to finish fifth in the preseason poll of head coaches and sports information directors in the league. Defending champion Mississippi College was picked to repeat.

The Cowboys started the 2012 season 3-6 but rebounded to go 7-0-2 the rest of the way and finish the year with a record of 10-6-2. HSU lost a penalty kick shootout in the ASC semifinals against Mississippi College.

 

MC received 15 first-place votes and 229 points in the preseason poll. Texas-Dallas was picked second with 209 points and five first-place votes. Texas-Tyler was third with 205 points, Mary Hardin-Baylor was picked fourth with 180 points and HSU was fifth with two-first place votes and 164 points and Louisiana College was picked sixth.

 

East, Texas Baptist, Ozarks, Concordia, Howard Payne and LeTourneau rounded out the poll. The top six teams advance to the ASC Championship Tournament at the end of the year.

 

UTD senior forward Michael Darrow, who led the ASC with 19 goals last season, and UT Tyler senior defender Enoch Shipman were named the preseason offensive and defensive players of the year.
