Cowboys Tie School's Blocked Shots Record In Win Over Ozarks

ABILENE, Texas -

Hardin-Simmons’ men’s basketball team tied the school record with 15 blocked shots and cruised to a 94-66 win over Ozarks in American Southwest Conference action at the Mabee Complex on Saturday afternoon. 

The Cowboys broke open the game late in the first half with a 15-2 run from the 4:22 mark to the :51 second mark to take a 44-28 lead.

HSU led by double digits the entire second half. The Cowboys used a 14-3 run late in the second half to push the lead to 30. Freshman Duane Hopper capped the run with a 3-pointer. 

HSU finished the game with 15 blocked shots as Mawen Maywin, the ASC leader in blocks, had five and Titus Mims added five. The Cowboys also had 26 assists on 35 made baskets and shot 53 percent in the game.

Derrick Jefferson had a monster second half for the Cowboys scoring 22 of his game-high 28 points. He also had seven rebounds and five assists in the game for HSU. Titus Mims added 20 points, Charles Sams scored 13 of his 16 points in the first half and John Barnes had 11 points and seven assists. 

Ricky Allen had 27 points, four assists and four steals to pace Ozarks.

The Cowboys are now 9-7 on the year and 9-4 in ASC action. HSU is tied for third place in the league standings and will travel to conference leader Texas-Dallas on Monday at 7:30 p.m. UTD is 15-1 overall and 13-0 in ASC play. Ozarks fell to 5-12 overall and 3-11 in league play.
