Hardin-Simmons’ softball dropped an American Southwest Conference doubleheader, 10-0 and 4-1 to No. 5 Texas-Tyler on Saturday afternoon at the UT-Tyler Ballpark.
The Patriots scored a single run in the first, four runs in the third inning and four more in the fourth inning to put the run rule in effect.
Lara Ammermann started and allowed 12 hits and six earned runs in three and two-third innings for the Cowgirls. Keely Lowrance recorded the final out.
HSU had five hits in the game off Kelsie Batten, who worked her second shutout of the series.
Sydnie Darden, Mac Clay, Bayleigh Middleton, Lauren Williams and Katelyn Joyner each had hits for the Cowgirls. Hinojosa and Geiger had two hits and drove in three runs each for UTT.
In the second game, the Cowgirls pushed the Patriots to a full game. It is the just the third time in nine games UTT had not won by the run rule.
Emily Hardaway was solid in the circle for the Cowgirls. She scattered six hits and allowed four runs over six innings. Kissinger allowed an unearned run and struck out seven to pick up the win.
Vanessa Carrizales singled to center in the first to give the Patriots the lead. HSU tied the game when Darden had an RBI single for the Cowgirls.
Whitney Burt delivered a three-run home run in the fourth for UTT.
Darden, Middleton and Kara LeLeux had the Cowgirl hits. Carrizales and Burt had two hits each for UTT.
The Cowgirls are now 2-7 on the year and 0-5 in league play. HSU has played the two nationally-ranked teams in the conference the first two weekends. HSU will play a doubleheader on Tuesday at Division I Abilene Christian. UT-Tyler improved to 9-0 overall and 6-0 in conference play.
