Hardin-Simmons’ volleyball teams split a pair of matches on the final day of American Southwest Conference play falling 25-22, 25-19, 25-21 to Texas-Dallas in the morning and following with a 20-25, 25-21, 25-14, 25-17 win over Howard Payne in the afternoon at the Brownwood Coliseum in Brownwood.
Tori Martinez led the Cowgirls offensive effort against UTD with 12 kills. The Cowgirls hit .092 as a team in the match. Tucker Smith had a double-double with 13 assists and 10 digs. Maritnez also added five blocks.
Against HPU, the Cowgirls lost the first game but swept through the next three games. Christine Sas led the offense with 19 kills and a .486 hitting percentage. She also had 12 digs. Martinez had 11 kills and Hannah Hornsby added 10 kills.
Ashley Babineaux had 18 digs. Tucker Smith had 23 assists and had seven service aces and eight digs. Molli Owen added 21 assists and eight digs. The Cowgirls hit .297 as a team, while holding the Lady Jackets to an .085 hitting percentage.
The Cowgirls are now 19-11 overall and 14-4 in conference play. The Cowgirls finished the season tied with East Texas Baptist for third place in the ASC standings. UTD is the league regular-season champion and the Comets will host the ASC Championship in two weeks. HSU has won three straight ASC titles.
HSU will close the regular season with matches against Southwestern, Texas Lutheran and Austin College next weekend in Georgetown.
