ABILENE, Texas -

Hardin-Simmons' women's soccer has established itself as a national contender on a yearly basis and 2013 is no exception as the Cowgirls will return 21 letterwinners and eight starters to tackle an ambitious schedule.

Not only does HSU return eight starters, they are all in at least their third year in the program and a strong recruiting class and the Cowgirls once again have high expectations.

HSU will get tested early and often in the non-conference schedule. The first weekend of the year HSU will play national power Puget Sound (Wash.) and also Luther (Iowa) in the Trinity Classic in San Antonio. UPS went 14-5-1 last year and lost 1-0 in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament to Trinity.

The next weekend HSU will play California Lutheran in Richardson. CLU went 18-5 last year and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championship.

On Sept. 14, the Cowgirls will host Chapman University. The two teams met in the NCAA Tournament last year and HSU won 1-0. The Panthers went 16-6-1 on the year. The next weekend HSU will host UC-Santa Cruz. The Banana Slugs went 10-7-1 on the year.

The Cowgirls then will head into conference play. HSU has a 157-game unbeaten streak in American Southwest Conference play dating back to 2000. The Cowgirls play what have been their two top contenders over the last several years Texas-Dallas and Texas-Tyler both on the road. The UT Dallas game is Sept. 28 in Richardson and the UT Tyler game is Oct. 18.

HSU has four straight home games in the middle of the conference slate.

The winner of the ASC regular season will host the conference tournament. HSU has hosted and won 10 straight ASC titles.
