FCA announces award winners
The Big Country/Concho Valley Fellowship of Christian Athletes is proud to announce the winners of the 2013 Rex Fleming Memorial Christian Athletes of the Year and the FCA Impact Team of the Year.
The Awards Banquet hosted in partnership with the Abilene Youth Sports Authority is set for Saturday, May 18, 2013 hosted in ACU’s Teague Center at 6:30p.m.
The 2013 Rex Fleming Memorial Female Christian Athlete of Year is Shelby Corn of Wylie High School. “Shelby’s athletic accomplishments are only overshadowed by the volunteer work that she has done in the community.” Mitch Davis,Principal, Wylie High School.
The 2013 Rex Fleming Memorial Male Christian Athlete of Year is Conlan Aguirre of Abilene High School. “Conlan daily portrays the characteristics that a Christian athlete should demonstrate.” Jennifer Raney, Principal, Abilene High School.
The Rex Fleming Memorial Christian Athlete of the Year is given in honor of 10 year old Rex Fleming who recently lost his two year battle with cancer. He loved sports and his life was the true example of caring for others and living every day the way God intended it to be lived.
The 2013 FCA Impact Team of Year is the Lady Hornet Basketball Team of Irion County High School. This active group of young ladies were successful on the court, but their community impact was even greater.
The Micah Tate Lindstrom FCA Coach of the year is Paul Johnston of Albany High School. This award is given to an area coach who exemplifies the character, integrity and convictions that Coach Lindstrom lived by.
Lindstrom was a Clyde Junior High School coach who was tragically killed in an accident at the age of 27.
Also awarded will be the FCA Huddle Coach of the Year. That award will be given to Ty Lang of Brownwood High School.
The Houston Texans QB, Keenum is the NCAA’s All-time record holder for Most Career Yards-20,114, Most Career TD passes-155, Career Passing yards-19,217, Career Completions-1546, 300+ yard passing games, the only player in NCAA history to pass for more than 5000 yards in a season 3 times, the only 2 time C-USA Most Valuable Player and the 2 time Sammy Baugh Award for the nation’s best passer. Following the 2011 season Keenum received FCA’s most prestigious national award – the Bobby Bowden Award. Keenum also quarterbacked the 2004 Wylie HS State Football Championship team.
